XStick(TM) Keyboard
Being an old DOS/unix kind-o-guy, I've tried to make XStick(TM) as
keyboard friendly as possible. Wherever I could I've assigned hot-keys
to enable the user to quickly change display and editing modes and
launch/close menu items and subscreens. Apparently the style-guides for
the Macintosh are against this type of behavior, but it's there on the
Macintosh too, to some extent. (The normal Alt-letter underscore used in
the Microsoft Windows/X Window environments is NOT done on Macintosh my
sources tell me, but I did implement some meta-key assignments into the
menus.) The following key assignments are configured for controls other
than the menus and underlined button commands (hopefully these are
somewhat intuitive, I had a real struggle finding unique key assignments
for all the important functions):
- Alt-Q: Quit the program.
- Down Arrow: Scroll the notation canvas down 1 unit.
- Up Arrow: Scroll the notation canvas up 1 unit.
- Page Down: Scroll the notation canvas down 1 page.
- Page up: Scroll the notation canvas up 1 page.
- Ctrl-R: Displays the fretboard notes in the "root" style.
- Ctrl-N: Displays the fretboard notes in the "note" style.
- Alt-r: (read) Activates the file open dialog.
- Alt-w: (write) Activates the save button using the default name.
- Alt-p: Activates the print file dialog.
- Escape: Activates the Tool Palette "move" button.
- Ctrl-c: Activates the Tool Palette "cut/delete" button.
- Ctrl-T: Activates the Tool Palette "text" button.
- Ctrl-f: Activates the finger selection mode on the notation canvas.
- space: Activates the string/fret selection mode on the notation canvas.
- comma: Activates the transpose selection mode on the notation canvas.
- slash: Acivates the duration selection mode on the notation canvas.
- Ctrl-t: Activates the tie-drawing mode on the notation canvas.
- Ctrl-a: (alter) Activates the bend-drawing mode on the notation canvas.
- Ctrl-z: Clears the accidental mode on the notation canvas.
- Ctrl-b: Activates the flatted note mode on the notation canvas.
- Ctrl-n: Activates the natural note mode on the notation canvas.
- numbersign (#): Activates the sharp note mode on the notation canvas.
- period: Toggles dotted-note mode on/off.
- Ctrl-w: Activates whole note mode.
- Ctrl-h: Activates half note mode.
- Ctrl-q: Activates quarter note mode.
- Ctrl-e: Activates eighth note mode.
- Ctrl-s: Activates sixteenth note mode.
- Ctrl-i: Activates index finger mode.
- Ctrl-m: Activates middle finger mode.
- Ctrl-r: Activates ring finger mode.
- Ctrl-p: Activates pinky finger mode.
- Ctrl-W: Activates whole rest mode.
- Ctrl-H: Activates half rest mode.
- Ctrl-Q: Activates quarter rest mode.
- Ctrl-E: Activates eighth rest mode.
- Ctrl-S: Activates sixteenth rest mode.
- Ctrl-B: Toggles long-bar mode on/off.
- Ctrl-1: Selects single staff line mode.
- Ctrl-2: Selects double staff line mode.
- Ctrl-3: Selects double-begin-repeat staff line mode.
- Ctrl-4: Selects double-end-repeat staff line mode.
